Bogged excavator and recovery

Scottish Woodlands Health & Safety Toolbox Talk

A fencing contractor bogged his excavator while transporting fencing materials to the site of a planned fence line.
Ensure you have an outline machine recovery plan in place, which would include knowing the machines rated recovery attachment points, and as required, how to access suitably rated strops, cables, shackles, pulleys and winches.
Ensure you have access to additional fuel and oil containment and clean up materials, and have a plan to contact and engage suitable mechanised assistance.
A prepared recovery plan, quickly put in place, can minimise machine damage due to water ingress, decrease the likelihood of diesel and hydraulic oil damaging the environment, and minimise lost production time.
