Blow to the neck – loss of consciousness

Scottish Woodlands Health & Safety Toolbox Talk

A fencing squad leader turned his back on the vertical clamp to look down the fence line and communicate with his colleagues. The clamp attached to the net, fell and struck him on the back of the neck, knocking him to the ground. He struck his head on the rocky ground as he fell. The blow to the back of his neck knocked him unconscious for approximately 30 seconds. He recovered well enough to stand and was evacuated from the hill and was transferred to the local A+E for a scan and assessment. He was well enough to leave the same evening. The operator was well enough to return to work the following week.
