Sitting Disease

Scottish Woodlands Toolbox Talk

Sitting for long periods of time is bad for our physical and mental health. It can cause our metabolism to slow, reduces circulation, and can negatively affect how your body regulates blood sugar, blood pressure, and breaks down fat. Increasing the likelihood of developing chronic health conditions or a premature death.

What should we do?

  • Reduce sitting time at work by at least 60 minutes per day to improve your health.
  • Standing up for about 5 minutes every half hour can reduce your risk of adverse health effects.
  • Screen Breaks should be taken for 5–10 minutes every hour.
