FISA have recently received several queries seeking advice on the issue of how to approach retrieving trees or timber out of rivers or other water bodies.

Sites are seeing increasing numbers of wild boar, often in wooded areas. The Landowner needs to ensure that hazard information on and around forestry worksites are communicated to the FWM – including the more random hazards!

Lessons learned from a high lead winching incident in England have been shared with FISA.

FISA are receiving a number of enquiries regarding peat restoration projects and the highlighting of underground services. Some appear to be at the tendering stage. 

Underground services are encountered more frequently in forest operations due to urban forest activity and renewable developments in the rural setting.

Forestry pesticide users do need to be suitably trained and certified.

Following recent query calls on ATV/ Sit Astride, a summary of the key points are detailed below.  The topic will be picked up by a subgroup within the FISA Plant & Equipment WG.

FISA Safety Alert

As an industry, we have all heard accounts of theft and vandalism – these range from opportunist thefts to large scale organised crime.

It is vitally important that all rural related crimes are reported to the police, no matter how insignificant.

Following ongoing enquiries and concerns raised with FISA for roadside working we are moving forward with drafting new guidance to support the industry on the subject.

Roadside Safety Week takes place between 19th November – 25th November 2025. It is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about road safety issues, including the prevention of accidents, injuries, and fatalities on the road.
