Excavator restock mounding - Three near misses

Scottish Woodlands Health & Safety Toolbox Talk

After three separate incidents, on excavator restock ground preparation worksites, over the last 5 years, where the unguarded window on the right side of the excavator cab, next to the boom, has been smashed, either by

  • long timber lengths falling onto the machine as harvesting residues were being moved,
  • or timber lengths pivoting up out the brash matt while the excavator was shifting the brash.

Scottish Woodlands have prepared a Safety Bulletin looking into the Principal Cause and Prevention.
