Quads & All-Terrain Vehicles

Refreshed February 2026 - emphasising the importance around the legal requirement for employers to provide adequate training for employees who use work equipment, such as ATVs; assess the effect of the site and weather conditions, choosing a vehicle suited to the conditions.  You need to also manage lone working and avoid overloading.

This guide covers the safe working practices to be followed when using sit-astride all-terrain vehicles (Quad Bikes) and side-by-side all-terrain vehicles (ATV). All-terrain vehicles are vehicles that are designed specifically for off-road use.
