The Forestry Works Manager Working Group are looking for new members.

As pivotal as the FWM is in successful Forestry Worksite Management, the FWM WG is pivotal in enabling and supporting our FWMs.

More information on the FWM WG can be found here.

Following on from updating the FWM Competency Framework in December 2023, the Working Group is now liaising with and supporting other industry partners to define and develop training for FWM’s, its delivery at scale to the industry, and the promotion of this by publishing it in the FWM Competency Framework

  • The WG has set out the minimum standards training providers should meet to allow attendance, training and assessment events,  to be listed in the FWM Competency Framework
  • The WG are currently working with the Forest Industry Environmental Group to create a scope for a one-day FWM Environmental Awareness Attendance Event, paralleling the FISA FWM Health and Safety Attendance event.  It is intended to make this scope available to training providers early in the new year to allow them to develop and deliver at scale.
  • The WG will be working with training providers to help develop and bring to market, training in the Planning and Management of Chainsaw Operations for FWM’s in 2025.

The working group operates on a task and finish basis, with Teams meeting dates, set to reflect target delivery dates.

The WG currently has eleven listed members.

We are particularly interested in adding members with a strong environmental background in support of the extension of the FWM scope to include the responsibilities in environmental protection.

We are looking to organise a meeting, with our new membership, early in the new year where we will be looking at

  • The FWM Environmental Awareness Scope, prior to it being made available to training providers
  • Existing training outlines and content submitted by training providers for WG review
  • How to support the development of FWM Planning and Management of Chainsaw Operators
  • How to signpost FWM’s to recognised training providers.
  • Setting next WG Objective.

If you wish to be considered for group membership, please put your name forward by Friday January 17th 2025.
