Guidance on the safe management of timber stacks

FLS have shared this internal document on Timber Stack Management; the document offers an example of their internal safety system for managing timber stacks.

Stacks of timber at roadside are a product of all harvesting sites. During harvesting operations they can be a significant risk to people and the environment if incorrectly built and maintained. Many people visit these sites during operations, e.g. hauliers, mechanics, supervisors, public at week-ends; and stacks are often still present long after harvesting operations are complete.
Management and maintenance of stacks must continue throughout the whole lifecycle of the harvesting operation.

Evidence is such that poorly constructed or maintained stacks can pose a threat to life and the environment.
