Changes to the Highway Code

FISA Safety Bulletin

The Highway Code has changed.  The most notable change is that the law will now require 'those who can do the greatest harm to others to have a higher level of responsibility to reduce the danger'.  This means changes to a range of areas including driver priority, pedestrian and cyclist rights of way, mobile phone use behind the wheel and broader use of fines for poor or dangerous driving.

The changes will start coming into force on 29 January 2022.  We expect strict enforcement of the new rules so it is essential you understand the new and existing rules. The rule changes and the penalties you might face for non-compliance, whether you are a motorist, cyclist, or pedestrian, are shown below.
