About the Role
We are seeking a highly qualified Technical Officer to join the Forest Industry Safety Accord (FISA) team to support the safety and technical elements within the team and the wider operations within the forestry industry. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced health and safety professional with strong forestry industry knowledge, to contribute to FISA safety guidance and standards whilst enjoying flexible, remote working arrangements.
About FISA
The Forest Industry Safety Accord (FISA) is a membership organisation established in 2012 as a collaboration between a cross-section of forest industry organisations, united by a shared commitment to transforming safety standards across the sector.
FISA provides clear, proactive leadership in raising health and safety standards throughout the forestry industry. Through specialist Working Groups and the provision of comprehensive guidance and information, we drive meaningful change in attitudes and behaviour to safety across all sectors of the forest industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Guidance Production & Technical Support
- Verify safety guidance documentation outputs before publishing and maintain compliance checks.
- Occasional input to resolve technical enquiries from FISA members, industry stakeholders, and the general public.
- Act as FISA's technical expert in legal and regulatory matters.
Essential Requirements
- Professional Qualification:
- Chartered safety professional.
- Current membership of a recognised Health & Safety body (CMIOSH) with evidence of ongoing CPD.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of safety compliance requirements for all aspects of the forestry industry. Working knowledge of its operations, and associated safety challenges.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Technical Competence: Ability to interpret and approve compliant technical safety guidance.
Flexibility
Ability to flex to a variable workload and timetable is essential.
Working hours will, by the nature of the job demands, be unpredictable and follow an ‘on-demand’ style working pattern of approximately 10 hours per month.
- Remote, home-based working.
- Undertake additional duties if required.
What We Offer
- Working Pattern: Highly flexible arrangement on an ‘as needed’ basis (10 hours per month approximately).
- Rate: £70.00 per hour (self-employed basis).
- Location: Remote working with occasional travel for meetings and site visits.
