FISA will cease to offer the Chainsaw Refresher Training as of 1 November 2021

As agreed by FISA Steering Group

The FISA Steering Group has agreed that, as of 1 November 2021, FISA will cease to offer the Chainsaw Refresher Training.  However, those courses already booked for delivery during November will be honoured and completed.

A direct alternative is the Lantra +F Chainsaw Refresher training course.

Lantra will continue to offer this course to meet industry requirements and those set out in the HSE guidance document on “Chainsaws at Work”.

Other refresher courses offered by Lantra are listed below:

  • Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross Cutting +F Refresher
  • Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross Cutting & Felling & Processing Trees up to 380mm +F Refresher
  • Felling & Processing Trees Up to 380mm +F Refresher
  • Felling & Processing Trees over 380mm +F Refresher
  • Sever Uprooted or Windblown Trees Using a Chainsaw +F Refresher

These courses are delivered with a forestry context by instructors who have gained additional accreditation to ensure they have the desired level of skills, knowledge, and experience in forestry.

The courses must be booked directly through the Lantra network of Approved Training Providers who will be able to advise course dates and availability of places.   Lantra Approved Training Providers, along with further details can be found on the Lantra website here https://www.lantra.co.uk/

To find a Training Provider, please enter the course title in the search bar and your nearest Training Provider will be listed at the bottom. You may be required to enter your post code.

The chainsaw competency system remains in development with the FISA Chainsaw Working Group and is currently being trialled on a limited number of pilot sites. Further updates on the development of this system will be provided over the coming months.
