Guide to LOLER regulations

This guidance is primarily for employers, dutyholders and anyone who has responsibility for controlling lifting equipment. Anyone involved in planning lifting operations or using lifting equipment in the workplace may also find this useful. It replaces two previous leaflets: "Lifting equipment at work. A brief guide to the law (INDG290)" and "Thorough examination of lifting equipment (INDG422)", which have now been withdrawn.

The new guide covers the equipment that is subject to LOLER and gives updated references to legislation and links to further guidance.

It describes your responsibility, as dutyholders, under the law; the dos and don’ts of lifting safely; thorough examination and examination schemes, and record keeping. It also gives a clearer explanation of what action to take and why.
