Part-time | Remote Working

About the Role

We are seeking a qualified Technical Officer to join the Forest Industry Safety Accord (FISA) team in supporting the safety and technical elements within the team and the wider operations within the forestry industry. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced health and safety professional with strong forestry industry knowledge, to contribute to FISA safety guidance and standards whilst enjoying flexible, remote working arrangements.

About FISA

The Forest Industry Safety Accord (FISA) is a membership organisation established in 2012 as a collaboration between a cross-section of forest industry organisations, united by a shared commitment to transforming safety standards across the sector.

FISA provides clear, proactive leadership in raising health and safety standards throughout the forestry industry. Through specialist Working Groups and the provision of comprehensive guidance and information, we drive meaningful change in attitudes and behaviour to safety across all sectors of the forest industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Support & Guidance

  • Collaborate with FISA teams, Working Groups, Task & Finish Groups, and the HSE to ensure smooth operational delivery.
  • Respond to technical enquiries from FISA members, industry stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Support complaint handling processes and resolve technical issues or queries.
  • Input to the drafting process for safety guidance documentation and maintain compliance checks.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Attend meetings, events, and site visits as required, representing FISA professionally.
  • Present on behalf of FISA and gather relevant information for team briefings.
  • Assist with Working Groups and Task & Finish Groups, including exploratory site work.
  • Support partnership working across forestry and related industries.

Communications & Administration

  • Contribute to briefing notes, e-updates, reports, press articles, and presentations.
  • Provide cover and support for team members during busy periods.
  • Contribute to quotation processes for project work inputs.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure compliance with FISA policies and industry regulations.

Flexibility

  • Undertake additional duties as directed, which may involve working outside standard hours.
  • Adapt to varying responsibilities whilst maintaining the core character of the role.
  • Embed FISA values across all aspects of service delivery.

Essential Requirements

  • Professional Qualification: Current membership of a recognised Health & Safety body (IOSH/CMIOSH preferred) with evidence of ongoing CPD.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of safety compliance requirements for the forestry industry. Working knowledge of its operations, and associated safety challenges.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Technical Competence: Ability to interpret and draft compliant technical safety guidance.
  • Flexibility: Adaptable approach to work with varying priorities and deadlines.
