Eye Injury on Site

Scottish Woodlands Health & Safety Bulletin

A Forestry Works Manager suffered an eye injury when the Spruce branches, they were pushing through, slipped out of their hands, whipped back and caught them in the eye. The FWM did not have the mesh visor down when wearing their helmet nor were they wearing their safety glasses. Their eyesight instantly became blurry and hazy, they experienced double vision due to the excess fluid in their eye, making it difficult for them to open their eye. First Aid was applied on site, by flushing the eye to remove any foreign objects.

Eyes are highly susceptible to damage. What would only be a minor cut, abraision or bruising injury on the rest of the body can have major impact on the eyes.
