World Day for Safety & Health at Work 2023

A safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental principle and right at work.

The FISA strategy links to our Accord, focussing on the need to advance our safety culture, improve behaviours and to drive continual improvement and change, reflecting our Accord belief that all fatalities and injuries are preventable.

The FISA strategy is a process of defining the vision for the future to allow prioritised allocation of resources to attain strategic goals.

The 2023 – 2028 FISA strategy is underpinned by 4 main priorities:

  1. Reviewing Chainsaw Operations
  2. Improving Safety Culture and Wellbeing
  3. Competency Frameworks
  4. Clear Communication on Safety Responsibility

The majority of topics worked on, and guidance generated through the FISA strategy are outcomes from FISA Working Groups (WG).

The FISA WGs comprise practitioners and safety experts plus other members working in task-specific groups to provide ideas, solutions, innovation and delivery. They provide recommendations to the FISA steering group.

Our strategic priorities are seen as the important areas where our industry needs to develop. Accomplishing our strategic priorities involves contributions from across our WGs.

Currently there are nine groups working on a number of tasks identified by the steering group and our membership. These tasks are seen as the important areas where our industry needs to develop, comprising of:

  • Managing Safety Documents
  • Chainsaw
  • Learning & Behavioural Change
  • Plant & Equipment
  • Forest Works Manager (FWM)
  • Forest Haulage
  • Electricity & Utilities
  • Worksite Management
  • Landowner
