Overhead Power Line Warning Signage

The FISA Electricity and Utilities Working Group have agreed, as a small step improvement, to offer up to the forestry industry, an industry standard template version of overhead powerline warning signage, that better reflects the HSE Guidance.

Please see below the sign template for use by all and a Scottish Woodlands Health and Safety Advice Bulletin with more detail.

HSE Avoiding danger from overhead power lines. Guidance Note GS6 (Fourth edition). The relevant paragraph of Section 21 Passing underneath overhead lines reads as below:

  • put warning notices at either side of the passageway, on or near the goalposts and on approaches to the crossing giving the crossbar clearance height and instructing drivers to lower jibs, booms, tipper bodies etc and to keep below this height while crossing;

FISA 804 Electricity at Work: Forestry - The industry safety guide 804 sets out the process for establishing safe overhead power line crossing point heights, the installation for goal posts, and the setting out and location of warning signage.
