Managing Public Safety around Forest Operations and Tree Works

New FISA Safety Guide - October 2026

This is a new guide intended for everyone involved in the planning, managing, and carrying out of all forest operations and tree work in the forest environment.

There are a number of tasks that have to be undertaken when planning and managing forest operations to ensure no one visiting or working in the forest has their health and safety put at risk.

This guidance highlights the roles and responsibilities for managing public safety under FISA GMHSF, to ensure that activities in and around worksites are coordinated, with the right tasks carried out by the right people. It also provides advice on suitable control measures that reflect a balanced, risk-based approach, with examples of operational scenarios.

This FISA guide is new to the forestry industry and we welcome your feedback on the guide. If you have feedback, please email admin@ukfisa.com. Your comments will be fed to the FISA Worksite Working Group and the guide will be reviewed in six months’ time.
